Dear Parent/ Carer,
We are all very much looking forward to welcoming the children on the 26th August and getting back to some semblance of normality, as I am sure you are! Over the past few weeks detailed plans have been put into place at school to ensure that you can be as confident as possible that your child will be safe and happy when they return. We have followed the guidance provided by the government and been constantly updating our plans as new guidance has been released. We have also taken advice from the Local Education Authority and receive regular updates from them.
As I am sure you can appreciate it has been a careful balancing act, balancing the needs to make things as ‘normal’ as possible for the children, with the need to keep children, parents, staff and visitors safe. There may well be some teething problems in the first few weeks and I am afraid you may feel inconvenienced at times, but I hope that you will understand that we have not taken any of the decisions we have made lightly and that we have ‘always’ had the best interests of the whole school community in mind.
Attached is an abridged version of the Covid19 handbook for re-opening, which details every aspect of Ellistown School re-opening on August 26th safely. I am afraid even the abridged version is several pages long! (I have left in only the parts which I feel are particularly relevant and interesting to you as parents) Particularly important parts are highlighted for your convenience. It has details about drop off and pick up arrangements (please note there will be a one-way system and the back gate to school will NOT be open), break time and lunch time arrangements, arrangements for PE days and information regarding before and after school club. There is also important information about what will happen if there is a suspected case of Covid19. I think that the handbook is fairly comprehensive, but should you have any other questions, or should you want to read the handbook in its entirety, please do not hesitate to email the school office and we will get back to you. Over the next couple of days, the risk assessment on the school website will also be updated with a new one, signed off by the governing body. We’ll let you know when this goes live.
P.S We have had a couple of questions regarding whether or not children in Year 5 and 6 can bring a rucksack to school instead of a book bag as has been the tradition. Rucksacks are permitted for year 5 and 6, but please note that children will not be needing to bring their PE kit to school this term, as we will not be changing for PE (children will come to school in their kit on PE days) so it may make sense to continue with a smaller bag for the time being.
Regarding uniform expectations, these remain the same as last year -as per the website. Black trainers are fine. On PE days children will be needing trainers for outdoor PE, so feel free to double up and buy one pair of trainers to be used on PE days also, especially to begin with until we begin to enter the muddier end of the year!
