Important - News re school closure to all but vulnerable children and the children of key workers.
Dear Parents and Carers, Apologies for the late Parentmail. I have just found out alongside the rest of the country that Ellistown School alongside all other schools in England will be closed for a minimum of 6 weeks, bringing us up to half term. To say I am devastated would be an understatement, not least because I know how upset the children will be and how hard this will be for many of our families. However, if this is what needs to be done to control this nasty virus then so be it. We've done it once and we can do it again! You are not alone and we will be with you every step of the way. Remote education proper will start on Wednesday and we will be in touch tomorrow regarding what that will look like and how to arrange loans of tech equipment etc. In the meantime you will receive a Parentmail in the morning with a plan just to get you through day 1.
As this has taken us all by surprise given that only yesterday the Prime Minister gave assurances that schools definitely didn't need to close, we have obviously not had an opportunity to collect updated information on which of our children have parents who are critical workers. For this reason some schools are closing to all children tomorrow in order to collect this information and prepare. However, we know that this short notice may leave our critical worker parents stranded. Therefore, if you believe you are a critical worker and have absolutely no option but to send your child to school tomorrow please do so. However, we would be hugely grateful to any critical worker parent who is able to make an alternative arrangement just for tomorrow, as we will be working with a skeleton staff tomorrow until we ascertain demand. School will be open from 8:30am until 3pm tomorrow and there will be no wrap around care. This will be reviewed tomorrow when we make a plan for how staff will be redeployed to support remote learning and key worker school. Children attending school tomorrow will need to bring a packed lunch please, as I am unable to speak to anybody from school food support services at this late hour to ascertain if the kitchen will be open. Children should enter school through the school office entrance.
A form will go out tomorrow morning for critical worker parents to fill in. As before we will require proof of employment. Critical worker places will be limited as before and priority will be given to single parent critical workers and families where both parents are critical workers. We will be sending out a Parentmail regarding vulnerable students to those families it concerns following this email. These places will be by invitation only.
For now I'm afraid that is all the information I can give you, but rest assured as soon as we are able to share more information we will be back in touch.
Take care and stay safe
